Denmark's gambling market posted strong growth in August 2024, with total revenue reaching DKK714 million ($112 million), representing a 25.1% increase compared to the same period last year, according to data from national regulator Spillemyndigheden.

A data table showing gambling revenue in Denmark from April to August 2025, including monthly totals for land-based bingo, land-based casinos, online casinos, slot machines, and betting, along with a pie chart illustrating the distribution of revenue by gaming sector.

Sports betting emerged as the primary growth driver, with revenue soaring 53.4% year-on-year to DKK225 million, marking the highest monthly total of 2024. The surge represents a significant jump from the DKK144 million recorded in August 2023 and a 41.5% increase from July’s DKK159 million.

Mobile betting dominated the sports wagering segment, generating DKK160 million and accounting for 71.3% of all sports betting revenue. Computer-based betting contributed DKK37 million, while retail betting stores added DKK27 million to the monthly total.

The iGaming sector maintained its position as Denmark’s largest gambling vertical, climbing 20.7% year-on-year to DKK361 million. Online slots continued to lead the segment, generating DKK284 million or 78.6% of total iGaming revenue. Online blackjack followed with DKK22.5 million, ahead of roulette at DKK16.9 million, poker at DKK8.6 million, and bingo at DKK8.2 million. Other online games contributed the remaining DKK21.1 million.

Land-Based Gaming Shows Mixed Performance

The land-based gambling sector presented contrasting results. Slot machine revenue experienced a marginal decline of 0.7% year-on-year to DKK95 million, with DKK76.8 million coming from gaming halls and DKK18.7 million from restaurant terminals.

Land-based casinos bucked the downward trend, posting a 4.9% increase to DKK31 million in August. This marked the fifth consecutive month that casino revenue exceeded the DKK30 million threshold. Land-based bingo activities generated DKK2 million, remaining consistent with previous months.

Player Protection Measures Continue to Expand

Spillemyndigheden reported continued uptake of responsible gambling tools, with 63,488 individuals registered with the ROFUS self-exclusion scheme by the end of August. This included 41,362 permanent exclusions and 22,126 temporary exclusions.

Since the scheme’s launch in 2012, 65.2% of registrants have opted for permanent self-exclusion from gambling activities. The six-month exclusion period proved the second most popular option, selected by 16.2% of users.

The August figures represent a substantial improvement from the DKK571 million recorded in August 2023 and a 12.6% increase from July 2024’s DKK634 million, indicating sustained momentum in Denmark’s regulated gambling market.
