The announcement followed a meeting between the Minister for the Economy and senior representatives of key firms. At that meeting, eight new investment projects were revealed, collectively amounting to the €60 million figure and targeted to support the creation of 1,300 high-value employment opportunities.
In the esports sector, for example, one of Brazil’s major organisations has selected Malta as the location for its main European office, scheduled to open in December. An established tournament-organiser also declared a €10 million investment over the next three years, as part of its registration and event-hosting operations in Malta.
In the video-game development space, a leading global company pledged to continue investing in the education and training of Maltese talent, ensuring that local workers can access the emerging career pathways in this sector.
Other company commitments announced include:
-
A digital-marketing firm planning to establish offices in Gżira with a €6 million investment and investing an additional €1.5 million into a video-game venture.
-
A media company investing €1.2 million into its upgraded facilities and increasing its workforce from 70 to 130.
-
An iGaming firm implementing a €20 million four-year investment plan that includes opening new offices and training more local employees.
-
A firm expanding its workforce from 200 to 700 employees with a roughly €21 million spend.
-
A company committing €30 million to offices, training and technological equipment, aiming to grow its headcount from 500 to 1,200 by early next year.
The Minister emphasised that Malta is increasingly recognised as a hub for innovative industries such as game development and esports. He also encouraged gaming firms operating on the island to reinvest part of their sponsorship budgets — traditionally used for international teams — into local Maltese sports, infrastructure and talent development.
The CEO of the industry-forum for gaming and iGaming stated that this set of initiatives — covering new esports organisations, office expansions, talent-development programmes and operational upgrades — signals a strong, forward-looking ecosystem, one aligned with Malta’s long-term strategic vision.
