Kongebonus Appoints David Nilsen as Editor-in-Chief to Lead Editorial Strategy

Kongebonus, the leading source for iGaming news and casino and betting information in Norway, has appointed David Nilsen as Editor-in-Chief as the platform continues to raise the bar for player-focused, investigative content.

Nilsen steps into the role after several years working behind the scenes at Kongebonus, where he has played a key role in shaping the platform’s editorial framework. Alongside his time as Senior Casino Writer, he has also worked in customer-facing roles at Kindred Group PLC and Betsson Group, giving him first-hand insight into player behaviour and operator processes.

Beyond his operational and editorial background, Nilsen has conducted in-depth strategic research for major newspapers in Norway and internationally, with a particular focus on new gambling legislation and regulatory developments. Combined with years of analysing game providers, mechanics and player response, his profile bridges the gap between complex regulation and real player experience.

In his new role, Nilsen will lead Kongebonus’ editorial strategy with a clear mission to further professionalise the platform’s content and methodology. A key priority will be expanding the site’s manual testing framework, ensuring every review reflects the genuine experience of a Norwegian player navigating a platform in real time.

David Nilsen, Editor-in-Chief at Kongebonus, said: “I’m incredibly proud to step into the Editor-in-Chief role at Kongebonus at such an important time for the industry. My focus is on building on the strong work already in place and continuing to raise the standard for independent, high-quality iGaming coverage in Norway.”

Nilsen will also use his research background to ensure Kongebonus stays ahead of regulatory developments, helping players understand how changes in legislation may affect their experience. At the same time, he plans to lead deeper investigative coverage of operators and game providers, looking beyond marketing messages to assess product quality, fairness and long-term player value.

A spokeperson for Kongebonus, said: “David has been central to building the quality and credibility of Kongebonus behind the scenes. His mix of research expertise, industry knowledge and genuine player focus makes him the ideal person to lead our editorial direction. As the Norwegian market continues to evolve, his leadership will help ensure we remain a trusted, independent voice for players.”

Industry Perspective

This appointment reflects the growing importance of editorial credibility within the affiliate and information sectors of the Norwegian iGaming market. As regulatory frameworks tighten across Scandinavian markets, platforms that prioritise transparency and independent analysis are positioning themselves as trusted resources for players navigating increasingly complex operator landscapes.

Nilsen’s background spanning both operator-side roles at Kindred Group and Betsson Group, combined with investigative journalism experience, addresses a critical need in the market: bridging technical regulatory knowledge with practical player experience. His focus on manual testing frameworks signals a shift toward more rigorous review methodologies, moving beyond surface-level operator assessments.

The emphasis on regulatory research is particularly timely as Norway continues to refine its gambling legislation. Platforms that can interpret and communicate regulatory changes effectively will play an important role in player education, especially as enforcement measures and licensing requirements evolve across the Nordic region.
