PrizePicks, North America's largest sports entertainment operator, has received approval from the New York State Gaming Commission to offer interactive fantasy sports contests in the state. The company will re-enter the New York market in the coming weeks with its peer-to-peer gaming platform.

Return to Major Northeast Market

PrizePicks has been granted an interactive fantasy sports operating license by the New York State Gaming Commission, clearing the path for the Atlanta-based operator to launch its peer-to-peer contest platform in one of the nation’s largest sports markets. The company expects to go live within weeks.

The license approval represents a significant milestone for PrizePicks, which exited New York following a legal settlement with the Gaming Commission in 2024. The company has since worked directly with state regulators to redesign its offering to meet New York’s fantasy sports compliance standards.

“New York is home to some of the most passionate sports fans in the country, and we know they will be excited to have PrizePicks back,” said Mike Ybarra, CEO of PrizePicks. “We’re thrilled to offer a great entertainment experience that elevates how they engage on game day and beyond.”

Regulatory Compliance Framework

PrizePicks developed its peer-to-peer contest format to align with New York’s fantasy sports requirements, which were expanded by the Commission in 2023. The approval marks the 16th jurisdiction to formally recognize PrizePicks’ contests as skill-based games under applicable fantasy sports legislation.

Jason Barclay, Head of Public Policy and Chief Legal Officer at PrizePicks, credited the Commission’s collaborative approach during the licensing process.

“We want to thank the New York State Gaming Commission for their collaboration and recognition of our peer-to-peer offering as a fantasy sports contest,” Barclay said. “We worked diligently to design a game that meets the Commission’s rigorous standards, and New York’s decision underscores the idea that innovation in fantasy sports can thrive within a clear regulatory framework.”

New York State Senator Joseph Addabbo welcomed the Commission’s decision, stating: “By issuing this license, the Gaming Commission is making a clear statement that our state will continue to embrace innovative Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) games that provide New Yorkers with safe, skill-based contests they can enjoy with friends, family, and fellow sports fans.”

Responsible Gaming Certification

PrizePicks continues to prioritize responsible gaming measures as part of its market expansion strategy. In 2025, the company became the first fantasy sports operator to receive iCAP accreditation from the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) for its responsible gaming practices and programs.

The operator currently serves more than 45 jurisdictions across North America and continues to pursue additional market opportunities where regulatory frameworks support skill-based fantasy sports offerings.
