The Q3 2025 revenue figure represents a slight improvement over the SEK 6.68 billion recorded during the same period in 2024. However, the quarter showed a sequential decline of 4.4% compared to Q2 2025’s SEK 7.02 billion.
Online Gambling Continues Market Dominance
Online gambling maintained its position as the sector’s largest revenue source, generating SEK 4.51 billion in Q3 2025—a 3.5% increase compared to the corresponding quarter of the previous year, according to Spelinspektionen data.
The digital segment’s growth offset declines in other gambling categories, demonstrating the continued shift in consumer preferences toward online platforms.
Land-Based Sector Faces Revenue Decline
Sweden’s land-based gambling operations experienced mixed results during the quarter. State lotteries and physical slot machines recorded a 7.2% year-on-year revenue decrease, generating SEK 1.26 billion.
Public benefit lotteries showed marginal improvement with a 0.5% increase, reaching SEK 822 million in revenue. Bingo games, also classified under the public benefit category, maintained stable performance at SEK 48 million—unchanged from the previous year.
Casino Cosmopol Closure Marks End of Era
The third quarter of 2025 marked the first full period without revenue from Casino Cosmopol, following the closure of Svenska Spel’s final land-based casino in April 2025. The shutdown aligns with the Swedish government’s decision to phase out all land-based casinos by January 1, 2026.
Svenska Spel, the state-owned gaming company, completed its exit from the physical casino market as part of broader regulatory reforms in the Swedish gambling sector.
Credit Gambling Ban Expansion Scheduled for 2026
Swedish authorities are advancing responsible gambling measures with an expanded ban on credit gambling set to take effect on April 1, 2026. While the Swedish Gambling Act currently prohibits players from using credit with licensed operators, the forthcoming regulation will extend restrictions to all licensees and gambling agents.
Under the new framework, operators will be prohibited from processing any transactions involving credit instruments, including loans and overdrafts that could be used for gambling purposes.
