The regulatory action follows the KSA’s determination that operators were failing to adequately communicate that early payout options do not apply to draw bets. The feature, which allows players to settle wagers early when their selected team achieves a two-goal lead, cannot be applied when no team holds an advantage.
Communication Standards Violated
According to the KSA, the issue centers on incomplete information presentation at the point of bet placement. While operator terms and conditions specify that early payouts exclude draw scenarios, this critical limitation was not consistently communicated during the betting process.
“The providers’ terms and conditions state that early payouts are not possible for draws, but this isn’t always clearly communicated when placing the bet,” the KSA stated. “This creates confusion among players, who may assume that early payouts also apply to draws.”
The regulator emphasized that operators must fulfill their obligation to provide clear and understandable information about all possible bet outcomes and associated conditions.
How Early Payout Functions
Early payout features allow players to declare their bet a winner if their selected team establishes a two-goal lead during a match, regardless of the final result. These bets carry lower odds than standard wagers, offering players the option to secure a reduced but guaranteed payout before the match concludes.
The feature’s structural limitation means it cannot logically apply to draw bets, as no team holds a lead in such scenarios. The KSA determined that this fundamental constraint was not being communicated with sufficient clarity.
Operator Response
Following contact from the KSA, the affected operators have amended their communication practices. Players now receive clearer information regarding early payout limitations for draw bets.
This regulatory intervention comes one week after the KSA directed operators to remove “share your bet” features and links from their platforms, indicating increased scrutiny of betting mechanics and their presentation to Dutch players.
The KSA holds regulatory authority over all licensed gambling operators in the Netherlands and enforces consumer protection standards across online and land-based gaming sectors.
