Pragmatic Play Rebrands Fat Panda as POP for Casual Players

Pragmatic Play has folded its Fat Panda studio into a new sub-brand, POP, and will rework Gates of Olympus, Sweet Bonanza and more for casual players.

Pragmatic Play has retired its Fat Panda studio brand and replaced it with Pragmatic Play POP, a casual-player sub-brand that will carry the supplier’s own name and take over the existing Fat Panda catalogue. The change was announced on 31 July 2026, with the first new release, Gates of Olympus POP, scheduled for 31 August.

POP is built around simple mechanics, high hit rates and softer graphics, aimed at casual and beginner players rather than the high-volatility audience that made Pragmatic Play’s flagship slots. Every Fat Panda title currently in circulation will be ported across to the new brand.

Flagship IP rebuilt for a different player

POP launches with reworked versions of Pragmatic Play’s best-known titles. Gates of Olympus, Sweet Bonanza, Zeus vs Hades and Starlight Princess are all on the initial rollout list.

Those four games sit among the most widely distributed slots in the market, and Gates of Olympus in particular has become a reference point for the high-volatility, high-multiplier design that defined the supplier’s output over the past five years. Recasting them with high hit rates and simplified features points the same IP at players who churn out of volatile games quickly.

Sharon McHugh, Director of Public Relations at Pragmatic Play, said the brand is intended to represent a different part of the portfolio.

“Pragmatic Play POP has arrived, bringing a bold new identity, a playful personality and fresh games on the horizon. Designed to appeal to casual and beginner players, it represents a lighter, more fun side of our portfolio. And yes, even our favourite character, Zeus, has had a glow-up! We’ve an exciting roadmap ahead with more of our famous titles set to receive the POP treatment.”

Fat Panda’s short run

Fat Panda launched in March 2025 as an exclusive studio supplying Pragmatic Play, with debut titles Lucky Tiger and Lucky Mouse. Both used compact grids, 3×3 and 3-4-3 respectively, with random multipliers and fast win animations. The studio’s stated target was the same one POP now inherits: new and casual players looking for simple gameplay and frequent wins.

Folding it into the parent name after roughly 16 months removes a brand that operators and players had only just started to recognise. It also means the casual tier now carries the Pragmatic Play name directly, which matters for lobby placement and operator merchandising, where studio recognition drives where a game sits on the page.

Why the casual segment

High-volatility slots dominate revenue in most regulated European markets, but they are unforgiving for players new to the format, and several jurisdictions have tightened rules around stake sizes, spin speeds and bonus-buy mechanics in ways that cut into the high-variance model. Germany’s online casino regime, where virtual slot wagers reached €4.6 billion in 2025, caps stakes at €1 per spin and imposes a five-second minimum spin duration, conditions that suit lower-variance, higher-frequency design.

Pragmatic Play already ranks near the top of the B2B supplier rankings by revenue and is carried by most major operators in Europe and Latin America. POP targets retention among players its core catalogue does not hold, using IP those players already recognise from lobby thumbnails and marketing.

Release schedule to December

Pragmatic Play has published a roadmap running to the end of 2026:

  • Gates of Olympus POP, 31 August 2026
  • Triple Hop Pots, 15 September 2026
  • Pelican Payday, 6 October 2026
  • Sweet Bonanza POP, 20 October 2026
  • Zeus vs Hades POP, 17 November 2026
  • Starlight Princess POP, 1 December 2026
  • Mahjong Wins POP, 15 December 2026

Two of the seven, Triple Hop Pots and Pelican Payday, are original titles rather than POP versions of existing games. The company says more releases will follow.

The test will be whether operators give POP versions separate lobby placement or treat them as variants of games they already carry. Running Gates of Olympus and Gates of Olympus POP side by side in the same casino lobby is a merchandising decision operators have not had to make at this scale before, and it will determine whether the sub-brand reaches new players or splits the audience for titles already in the catalogue. The first answer comes on 31 August.
