Infingame, a leading aggregator in the iGaming industry, highlights why modern casino engagement strategies need to address achievement, competition and anticipation, and how Challenges, Tournaments and Jackpots serve fundamentally different player motivations.
Infingame argues that the important question is not how many promotions a casino runs but how many different reasons it gives a player to engage.
Drawing on behavioural patterns visible across its aggregation ecosystem, Infingame is highlighting the need for operators to move beyond reliance on a single engagement mechanic. The company identifies three particularly important motivational routes within casino play: achievement, competition and anticipation.
Each creates a different reason to continue a session or return to the casino. Infingame addresses them through three distinct tools: Challenges for achievement, Tournaments for competition and Jackpots for anticipation.
The distinction matters because players do not all respond to the same incentive. A leaderboard can be highly effective for someone motivated by outperforming others, but less relevant to a player who wants an attainable personal objective. Likewise, a task-based mechanic creates a clear sense of progress, but it does not reproduce the suspense of playing towards an unpredictable high-value event. For operators, this means engagement should be treated as a portfolio rather than a single mechanic repeated across the entire player base.
Achievement: Challenges turn gameplay into measurable progress
Infingame’s Challenges tool converts ordinary gameplay into defined objectives, giving players a visible target and a clear path towards a reward. Instead of competing against the rest of the casino audience, the player effectively competes against the task.
Challenges can be structured around actions such as completing a required number of spins or wins, while operators can adjust difficulty and use campaigns to direct attention towards particular games. This makes the mechanic particularly useful when the commercial objective is not simply to generate a temporary spike in activity, but to guide behaviour.
The difference from a tournament is important. A player does not need to be the highest spender or strongest performer in a wider group to experience success. Completion itself becomes the reward trigger.
That makes Challenges suited to personal progression, game discovery, reactivation and activity during quieter periods. They can also create a more controlled engagement loop: objective, progress, completion, reward.
Competition: Tournaments make performance relative
Infingame’s Tournaments tool introduces a social and comparative layer through time-limited events, leaderboards and rewards. Players are no longer measuring progress solely against a predefined target, their performance has meaning relative to other participants.
Infingame currently supports five tournament mechanics: Bet Race, Win Race, Multiplier Race, Highest Multiplier and Highest Win. It allows operators to build campaigns around different behaviours rather than repeatedly applying the same leaderboard logic.
Tournaments can also incorporate Happy Hours, player segmentation, branded creative, monetary and non-monetary rewards, free spins, optional wagering requirements and automated payouts. This flexibility makes competition particularly valuable when an operator wants to create event-like activity, increase repeat visits during a campaign or bring a community dimension to otherwise individual gameplay.
Anticipation: Jackpots create value in what could happen next
Where Challenges provide a known objective and Tournaments provide a visible opponent set, Jackpots introduce uncertainty. The engagement loop is driven by the possibility of an exceptional outcome rather than by completing a task or climbing a leaderboard.
Infingame’s new Jackpot Chance mechanic extends that layer beyond individual game-provider ecosystems. The self-funded jackpot can sit on top of a selected set of casino games regardless of provider, allowing participating players to place an optional fixed side bet alongside their regular game bet.
The mechanic includes four jackpot tiers (Grand, Major, Minor and Mini) and three participation levels: 1x, 2x and 10x, giving players different levels of exposure to the jackpot mechanic while they continue playing the underlying casino content.
This creates an engagement layer with a fundamentally different psychological rhythm. There is no progress bar to finish and no leaderboard position to defend. Instead, each eligible round carries an additional possibility.
For operators, that means anticipation can be introduced across a broader content portfolio without making the jackpot dependent on one studio or one title.
Three motivations, three different jobs
The practical takeaway for operators is that Challenges, Tournaments and Jackpots should not be treated as interchangeable promotional formats.
Commenting on the approach, Dmytro Kryvorchuk, COO at Infingame, said:
There is no universal engagement mechanic because there is no universal reason why players engage. Some respond to progress and the satisfaction of completing a goal, others to competition, while for others it is anticipation that keeps the experience exciting.
That is why we see Challenges, Tournaments and Jackpots as three different tools doing three different jobs. For operators, the real opportunity is not choosing one mechanic over another, but building an engagement mix that can activate different motivations at different moments.

That distinction becomes increasingly important as casino portfolios expand but content volume alone does not determine whether players find a reason to remain active. The engagement layer determines what players are being asked to do with that content.
An operator can therefore use the same underlying game portfolio very differently depending on the objective: a Challenge can introduce a player to a new title; a Tournament can turn a group of titles into a competitive event; and a Jackpot can add an anticipation layer across games from multiple providers.
Infingame sees this as the next stage of casino engagement strategy: moving from isolated promotions towards a diversified engagement architecture in which different mechanics have clearly defined behavioural roles.
Industry context
Bonus and promotion mechanics now sit under tighter rules in some European markets. In Great Britain, the Gambling Commission capped wagering requirements on bonuses at 10 times and banned offers that require customers to play two or more types of gambling, such as betting and slots, from 19 January 2026, according to the Commission’s announcement of the changes. The regulator gave the example of a £10 bonus with a 50 times requirement, under which a customer had to play £500 before withdrawing any winnings.
Wagering requirements on Infingame’s Tournaments rewards are optional, according to the company, and Jackpot Chance runs as a side bet on casino games from several providers. Operators licensed in Great Britain apply the 10 times cap to any wagering they attach to such rewards.
Infingame says its single API gives operators more than 10,000 games from more than 100 providers. The licence listed on its website is held by Dreamtek Solutions B.V., registered in Curaçao and licensed by the Curaçao Gaming Authority (CGA). Supplier announcements on engagement and content tools are collected in Industry PR and under the B2B tag.
