bet365 launched its online sportsbook and casino in West Virginia on 27 August 2026, taking the operator to 18 US states for online sports betting and to four states where it runs both sports betting and online casino.
The West Virginia Lottery, the state body that licenses and regulates online sports wagering and interactive casino gaming, cleared bet365 for a full annual licence on 29 July 2026. The operator had been holding an interim licence since January 2026.
Trip Stoddard, Head of Development at bet365, framed the launch as part of the company’s wider North American push.
West Virginia represents another important step in bet365’s continued expansion across North America.
Timing tied to the football calendar
The launch date puts bet365 in the market days before the start of the college football and NFL seasons, the period that drives the largest share of US sports betting handle. Operators that miss the September window typically wait a year for a comparable acquisition period, which explains the compressed gap between the July licence approval and the August go-live.
West Virginia legalised online sports betting in 2018 and added interactive casino gaming in 2019, making it one of the few US states where online casino is available at all. That combination is the reason the state matters more to bet365 than its size suggests. West Virginia has a population of about 1.8 million, but it is one of a small group of states where an operator can run casino alongside sportsbook rather than sportsbook alone.
What bet365 has put live
The sportsbook covers more than 100 sports and includes live streaming of more than one million events a year. bet365 has also made its Early Payout Offer available in the state, which settles a pre-match moneyline bet as a winner once the backed team goes 17 points ahead, regardless of the final result.
On the casino side, the operator has launched Jackpot365, a multi-tier progressive jackpot mechanic, and Daily Prize Matcher, a free-to-play game. Responsible gambling controls at launch include deposit and session limits, in line with West Virginia Lottery requirements for licensed interactive operators.
Ten operators, one small market
West Virginia now has 10 licensed online sports wagering operators. For a state of its population, that is a dense field, and the established brands hold most of the handle. bet365 is entering as a challenger rather than a first mover, which is the position it has taken in almost every US state it has opened.
The company’s US strategy has leaned on sign-up offers and product features that are hard for rivals to copy quickly, rather than on outspending the two market leaders. Its current brand campaign, “Winning Is Everything”, is aimed at bettors who follow odds and lines closely rather than casual seasonal customers.
The North American rollout so far
West Virginia is the latest step in a run of launches that has been close to continuous for two years. bet365 went live in Illinois and Tennessee during 2025, added Kansas and Maryland in August 2025, and opened Missouri in December 2025. Michigan followed in April 2026 with both sportsbook and online casino.
In July 2026 the operator entered Alberta with both verticals, its first Canadian province, arriving as Canadian authorities settle the regulatory status of sports event contracts in the same market.
The pattern is consistent: bet365 takes the online casino licence wherever one exists, and takes sports-only access where it does not. Four dual-vertical states out of 18 reflects how few US jurisdictions have legalised online casino, not a limit on the operator’s appetite.
What to watch next
The first full football season will show whether bet365 can convert a late entry into share in a market where DraftKings and FanDuel have had years of head start. The casino numbers will say more. West Virginia publishes monthly interactive gaming revenue, so within two or three quarters it will be clear whether bet365’s casino product is taking players from incumbents or simply adding a tenth name to a crowded licence list.
Beyond West Virginia, the operator’s next openings depend on legislatures rather than licensing. Online casino remains legal in only a handful of US states, and most of the states where bet365 is not yet live have not passed online sports betting laws at all.
