Stake has gone live in Argentina’s Buenos Aires Province via stake.bet.ar, operating under a licence granted by the Provincial Institute of Lottery and Casinos (IPLyC), extending the operator’s Latin American footprint to five confirmed markets.
Buenos Aires Province Framework
Buenos Aires Province administers its online gambling regime independently from Buenos Aires City, which operates under a separate licensing body, LOTBA. The IPLyC framework, grounded in Law No. 15.079 and Decree 181/19, applies a 25% tax on operator revenue and restricts platform access to players domiciled or using devices within the province. Seven online licences were issued when the province opened its digital gambling framework in 2018, each running for 15-year terms.
With more than 17 million residents, Buenos Aires Province is Argentina’s most populous territory and one of its most economically significant. Argentina has no single federal online gambling authority, with regulation sitting at the provincial and municipal level. That means operators seeking national coverage must secure approvals jurisdiction by jurisdiction. For most international operators, Buenos Aires Province is the logical entry point given its population size and regulatory maturity.
LatAm Expansion
The Argentina launch follows Stake’s entry into Mexico at the start of May and adds to existing operations in Brazil, Colombia, and Peru. The five-market presence across Latin America reflects a sustained push into fully regulated jurisdictions, a shift that has become more visible across the operator’s recent commercial decisions.
The World Cup context is not incidental. The 2026 FIFA World Cup opens on 11 June across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, with Argentina among the tournament’s highest-profile participants. Latin American sportsbook volumes typically spike significantly during World Cup cycles, and operators with established licensed footprints in the region are positioned to capture that demand.
Stake’s regional approach mirrors a broader industry trend of international operators formalising presence in Latin American markets as licensing frameworks have matured across the continent. Brazil, one of Stake’s existing LatAm markets, has attracted significant operator interest following the formalisation of its gambling framework in 2025.
Otalora: “A Market with Energy and Identity”
Diana Otalora, LatAm General Manager at Stake, said:
“Argentina is an important market for us and a natural next step in our expansion across Latin America. There is an incredibly passionate sporting culture, a large and digitally engaged population and strong long-term potential for Stake. We’ve continued to build momentum across Latin America in recent years, and this launch reflects our ambition to establish Stake as the leading entertainment brand in the region. Argentina is a market with energy and identity and we’re excited to bring our world-class sportsbook and casino experience to players through stake.bet.ar.”
Aguero Partnership
The Argentina entry also activates Stake’s existing ambassador relationship with Sergio Aguero, the former Argentina and Manchester City striker. Aguero scored 41 international goals for Argentina and remains one of the country’s most commercially recognisable sports figures. His association with Stake gives the brand a local reference point with direct relevance to Argentine sports fans ahead of the World Cup.
Platform Background
Stake launched in 2017 and reports more than 100 million monthly visits across its global domains, according to company figures. The platform is positioned as a mobile-first product, with sportsbook and casino content available through stake.bet.ar for players in the province. Stake built its platform in partnership with SoftSwiss, which supported the operator’s growth from 15 games to a platform reporting $4.7bn in GGR.
The operator does not disclose regional revenue breakdowns, so the financial contribution of the LatAm portfolio is not public. With a 25% revenue tax applied by IPLyC and the World Cup opening in ten days, the commercial performance of the Buenos Aires Province licence will become clearer quickly.
