Holland Casino has started construction of its new Holland Casino Groningen venue at Businesspark Ter Borch in Eelderwolde, along the A7, the Dutch state-owned operator said on 30 October 2026. The project brings back a permanent casino for Groningen, nine years after the previous venue burned down.
Employees, construction partners and representatives of the municipality of Tynaarlo attended a ceremony at the site to mark the official start of building. In its announcement of the construction start, Holland Casino described the building as a “sustainable and future-proof” casino at the gateway to Groningen.

CEO Petra de Ruiter performed the opening act with Marcel Thijsen, mayor of the municipality of Tynaarlo, and Richard van den Broek, who has worked at Holland Casino Groningen since its first day.

Thijsen told the gathering the project was important for the region and would add to the development of Businesspark Ter Borch and the site’s appeal along the A7, according to Holland Casino.

The new site
Holland Casino lost its previous permanent Groningen venue to a fire in 2017. The company chose the Ter Borch site in 2023, citing access for visitors from Groningen, Drenthe and the surrounding area. The business park sits in Tynaarlo, a Drenthe municipality on the southern edge of the city of Groningen.
