Brightstar Lottery has signed a multi-year extension of its lottery technology contract with Organización Nacional de Ciegos Españoles (ONCE), Spain’s national organisation for blind people, the company announced on 22 October 2026. Under the Brightstar ONCE contract, the supplier since 2002 will keep upgrading software and developing ONCE’s central gaming system. The announcement did not give the term or value.
Scope of the Brightstar ONCE contract
The deal was signed by Brightstar Global Solutions Corporation, a subsidiary of NYSE-listed Brightstar Lottery PLC, according to Brightstar’s announcement of the ONCE extension. It covers software enhancements for ONCE’s lottery operations in Spain and further work on the central system that runs its games.
The relationship is now 24 years old. ONCE uses lottery income to pay for social programmes for people with severe visual impairments and other disabilities, according to Virginia Castellano Gómez-Monedero, who was appointed ONCE’s Deputy Director General for Organization, Talent and Resources in June 2025.
ONCE is pleased to extend our long and successful relationship with Brightstar. Brightstar is the right partner to help us continue evolving our lottery operations, reinforcing our commitment to safe, responsible lotteries with a social purpose, and enabling us to fund a wide range of social programs and services to support people with severe visual impairments and people with other disabilities in Spain.
Virginia Castellano Gómez-Monedero, Deputy Director General for Organization, Talent and Resources, ONCE, in a statement
Spain’s 2011 gambling law reserves lottery games to two operators, ONCE and the state-owned Sociedad Estatal Loterías y Apuestas del Estado (SELAE). Commercial online gambling is licensed separately by the Dirección General de Ordenación del Juego (DGOJ), and that market generated €405m GGR in Q3 2025.
Second renewal in three days
The ONCE deal came two days after Brightstar signed a two-year extension with the New York State Gaming Commission on 20 October to keep supplying technology and services to the New York Lottery.
Marco Tasso, who spoke for Brightstar on the Spanish renewal, became Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Global Lottery on 1 July 2026. He took over the duties of Renato Ascoli, who stepped down as CEO, Global Lottery on 30 June, and reports to Brightstar CEO Vince Sadusky, according to Brightstar’s leadership announcement of 11 June.
ONCE is world renowned for its commitment to improving the social and professional inclusion of people with disabilities and Brightstar is honored to serve their lottery operations to support this important work. We look forward to continue providing ONCE with leading technology solutions for its lottery system.
Marco Tasso, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Global Lottery, Brightstar Lottery, in a statement
Brightstar took its current name in July 2025, when International Game Technology PLC sold its gaming and digital businesses to funds managed by Apollo and kept the lottery division. The company says it serves nearly 90 lottery customers on six continents, is the primary technology provider to 26 of the 46 US lottery jurisdictions and to eight of the world’s 10 largest lotteries with central systems, and employs about 6,000 people.
Next steps
Brightstar will host a conference call on Tuesday 10 November 2026 to discuss its third-quarter 2026 results. Neither Brightstar nor ONCE has said when the extended contract expires.
