Allwyn has put Powerball on sale in the UK, with an estimated £300 million jackpot in the National Lottery's first draw on 23 July.

Allwyn has put Powerball tickets on sale across the UK, with an estimated £300 million jackpot on offer in the game’s first National Lottery draw on Thursday 23 July. The prize is the largest ever offered through The National Lottery.

Tickets went on sale today, priced at £4 per line, through The National Lottery app and in retailers nationwide. Players have until 11.55pm on Wednesday 22 July to enter the opening draw, which takes place at around 4am UK time on Thursday. After the debut, draws will run three times a week from the Powerball studio in Florida.

How the UK game works

UK players win the shared jackpot by matching five main numbers plus the Powerball. Any jackpot won by a UK player is paid out over 30 years. The game carries an additional ‘Match 2 main numbers’ prize tier available only to UK players, which pays a fixed £8, while the ‘Match 5 main numbers’ tier pays a fixed £1 million. All other tiers offer estimated prizes that vary with the numbers drawn and the number of winners in each tier.

Jackpots are uncapped, starting at £10 million and able to grow into the hundreds of millions, and in principle beyond £1 billion. That structure sets Powerball apart from the fixed and capped top prizes on Allwyn’s existing National Lottery portfolio.

A US game brought to Britain

Powerball is launching in the UK in partnership with the Multi-State Lottery Association (MUSL), a non-profit body owned and operated by its member lotteries. The game already runs across 48 US-based lotteries, and Allwyn is operating a tailored version for the UK market rather than folding UK players directly into the American draw.

The game has produced some of the largest lottery wins on record, including a jackpot worth more than $2.04 billion in 2022. That history is central to how Allwyn is positioning the UK launch, which pairs a familiar international brand with a domestic prize structure.

“I’ve seen first-hand how a big win can transform lives,” said Allwyn senior winners’ advisor Andy Carter. “But when people start imagining jackpots in the hundreds of millions of pounds, the conversation changes. People move beyond buying a bigger house or taking a dream holiday and start thinking about making a difference, whether that’s supporting loved ones, helping their local community, backing a cause they care about or turning a lifelong dream into reality.”

“Powerball Money brings a whole new level of possibility to UK players. It’s a chance to win the biggest jackpot ever offered through The National Lottery and to dream bigger than ever before.”

Pressure on the National Lottery portfolio

The launch comes as Allwyn works to lift National Lottery sales under the fourth licence it began operating in 2024. A record headline jackpot gives the operator a marketing anchor at a time when returns to good causes and ticket volumes are under close scrutiny, and when the UK’s regulated gambling market continues to grow. Allwyn reported €4.1 billion in net revenue for its 2025 financial year, and the UK National Lottery is a central part of that business.

Higher jackpots also raise responsible gambling questions. A £300 million top prize, and the prospect of draws three times a week, gives players more frequent and higher-stakes opportunities to play than the twice-weekly Lotto and EuroMillions draws they are used to. How Allwyn balances the promotional push around record prizes against player protection commitments will be watched by regulators and campaigners alike.

The first draw on Thursday will give an early read on demand. Ticket sales figures and the size of any rollover will show whether a nine-figure jackpot translates into the participation Allwyn needs across the rest of its National Lottery games.
