Flutter layoffs have reached at least 2,450 announced roles since November 2025, when Sky Bet moved its headquarters to Malta. The latest UK and Ireland (UK&I) plan, unveiled on 20 October 2026, puts as many as 550 roles at risk in Leeds, 240 in Dublin and about 300 in Cluj-Napoca.
Flutter Entertainment set a ceiling of up to 1,400 UK&I roles in a Form 8-K filed with the US Securities and Exchange Commission, as covered in TGE’s report on the 1,400 UK&I job cuts. It has not published a breakdown by office. The group employs 28,500 people worldwide, 9,000 of them in the UK&I division.
As we warned a year ago, we cannot fully absorb a rise of this magnitude without reducing our fixed cost base and therefore must restructure our business so that we can best position ourselves for the future.
Kevin Harrington, Chief Executive Officer, Flutter UK & Ireland, in a statement on 20 October 2026
Flutter layoffs since the Sky Bet move to Malta
Sky Betting & Gaming moved day-to-day commercial and marketing decisions from Leeds to Malta from 1 November 2025, ITV News reported. Flutter had told staff of the move in June 2025, when it also announced a plan to make about 250 UK employees redundant. Tax expert Dan Neidle estimated the move could save up to £55m a year in UK corporation tax and VAT, an estimate ITV said Flutter did not dispute.
Since then, Flutter has announced job cuts in eight rounds across India, Ireland, the UK and the US.

Junglee Games, Flutter’s Indian rummy business, laid off 350 staff in Delhi and Bengaluru and planned to redeploy the remaining 600 or so, according to Inc42. In the US, FanDuel closed its linear TV channel and the Picks product, as reported in TGE’s coverage of the FanDuel TV and Picks cuts. In June, a further round hit software engineering, customer support and business development, affecting a few hundred of roughly 5,000 staff, according to Front Office Sports. PokerStars cut roles in several jurisdictions, including North America, in July without giving a number.
Paddy Power’s retail estate has had two rounds. Flutter closed 57 shops in November 2025, and on 3 September 2026 it said up to 100 of its 506 UK and Irish shops could close, putting up to 400 jobs at risk, according to the Irish Examiner.
Added together, the rounds with a published figure come to at least 2,450 roles since November 2025. Three rounds have no published figure, so the total is a floor.
The 1,400 cuts by office
The local figures reported for the 20 October plan account for up to about 1,240 of the 1,400 roles. London and Porto have no published numbers.

Leeds carries most of the UK cuts, according to RTÉ. Flutter employs about 1,700 people in the city. The Yorkshire Evening Post reported that more than 450 Leeds jobs are at risk, though not all are expected to go. The Telegraph put the Leeds figure at as many as 550, with technology, trading and legal among the departments in scope.
At tombola, the Sunderland-founded bingo brand Flutter owns, the Low Street office employs about 800 people. The Sunderland Echo said the number of Sunderland roles at risk had not been confirmed and was thought to be under 100.
The BBC reported that staff in London, Malta and Gibraltar could also be affected. Trade media reported on 21 October that about 50 roles at Sky Bet’s Malta office are at risk, that its Maltese entity, SBG Sports Limited, is expected to be wound down, and that remaining staff would move to Gibraltar, where Sky Gaming operates. Flutter has not confirmed those details. If they are confirmed, the Malta office would close less than a year after the November 2025 move.
In Gibraltar, Nigel Feetham, Minister for Justice, Trade and Industry, told the Gibraltar Chronicle that the government’s work with the gaming sector had helped “mitigate the impact on Gibraltar”. He gave no local figure.
No other office closure has been announced. Flutter’s filing names the affected locations without referring to any site closing, and the Yorkshire Evening Post reported that the betting-shop estate is outside this restructuring. Betfair Romania Development said Cluj “rămâne o locație strategică” (remains a strategic location) for Flutter.
Dublin: voluntary redundancy first
The 240 Dublin roles are concentrated at Flutter’s global headquarters in Clonskeagh, which has 1,770 staff, according to RTÉ. The roles sit in finance, HR, technology, training and legal, and the people affected will be offered voluntary redundancy. The Dublin office runs a unit that manages Flutter’s UK&I activities.
Cluj: volunteers, then selection
Betfair Romania Development, Flutter’s technology and operations company in Cluj-Napoca, said in a statement on 20 October that about 300 employees in its UK&I teams would leave the company when the process ends. The changes respond to “the significant increase in industry taxation in the UK”, the company said (translated from Romanian). It had about 2,400 employees and contractors in September 2026, according to Actual de Cluj.
The proposed changes do not reflect individual or team performance.
Betfair Romania Development, in a statement on 20 October 2026 (translated from Romanian)
Doru Șupeală, a Romanian business consultant, put the number at 350 to 400 in a LinkedIn post titled “Concedieri la Betfair: urmează Hunger Games” (Layoffs at Betfair: Hunger Games next). He wrote that about 1,000 staff in the Flutter divisions in scope were told by email on 20 October and then joined an online meeting that lasted less than 10 minutes.
According to Șupeală, Betfair will ask for volunteers first. If voluntary departures do not free all the targeted posts, a selection process with interviews and evaluations follows for the remaining roles. He described it, as quoted by Wall-Street.ro, as “a kind of Hunger Games where you actually fight for the job with your current colleagues” (translated from Romanian). Cluj24 reported that Betfair has not published the selection procedure or the compensation terms.
In an earlier post, Șupeală cited sources inside the company who said the Sports Operations teams (bet monitoring and online customer support) and IT Support were exposed, and that the eliminated posts would be allocated to India. He also alleged that several Betfair Romania employees had been asked to work on training AI applications, and that “nervozitate, depresie și incertitudine” (nervousness, depression and uncertainty) had set in, Actual de Cluj reported. Betfair’s statement does not name departments, India or AI, and the company has not discussed individual roles while the process continues. Betfair cut about 50 jobs in Cluj in 2025, according to Cluj24.
Where the $80m to $90m goes
Flutter expects aggregate pre-tax charges of about $80m to $90m, “consisting primarily of cash expenditure related to employee severance, benefits, and related costs”, according to its 8-K. The charges fall in Q4 2026. Flutter said it could not yet estimate a further non-cash charge for share-based compensation.
The filing gives no split of the charge by country or a severance formula per employee. In Romania, Șupeală said the voluntary package is three monthly salaries, including one month’s notice, plus one salary for each full year worked. Betfair has not confirmed those terms.
Remote gaming duty on online casino rose from 21% to 40% in April 2026, and general betting duty on online sports bets goes from 15% to 25% in April 2027. Flutter has said the increases will reduce its 2027 adjusted EBITDA by $540m before mitigation, according to the BBC. Sector-wide figures are in TGE’s iGaming layoffs 2026 update.
Next steps
Each country now runs its own consultation under local employment law. Flutter expects to substantially complete the restructuring by the end of 2026, subject to “applicable legal and employee notice and consultation requirements”, the filing states.
The UK Budget on 28 October is the next date for the sector. The bosses of Flutter, Entain, bet365 and three other operators have asked the government to rule out a machine games duty rise and to pause the April 2027 betting duty increase.
